The only route approaching Kilimanjaro from the north, near the Kenyan border. Fewer crowds, genuine solitude, and a unique perspective on Africa's highest peak.
Rongai is the only route approaching Kilimanjaro from the north, starting near the Kenyan border. It's the quietest and least crowded of all the routes. The northern approach offers a completely different perspective — drier conditions, pine forests, and views across to Kenya.
The route ascends gently with a good acclimatisation profile. Trekkers ascend from the north and descend via the Marangu route on the south, giving you the unique experience of seeing two sides of the mountain. Ideal for those who want solitude and a less trafficked path to the summit.
